Adelaide Fashion Festival
The Adelaide Fashion Festival is South Australia’s premier fashion festival. Established and nurtured by the City of Norwood, Payneham and St Peters, the festival was elevated on to the international stage in 2015 under the ownership of the South Australian Government and management of Events South Australia, the state’s major events arm.
A serious deadline
Adelaide Fashion Festival's website needed to be restructured, designed, branded, and built within a mere number of weeks. The requirements were quite tight; with a very specific design brief from Cul-De-Sac here in Adelaide, I was tasked with turning around the development of the website in 14 days.
Once of the most important factors in the AFF build was that it needed to be easily edited and maintained by SATC. It needed to be simple, intuitive, and all of the content needed to seamlessly integrate with the design flow of the site. This was attainable by writing a significant amount of custom code, in order to handle different types of posts and publications across the site. The website also needed to be intelligent, in the sense of automatically scaling images down, and compressing them for a smooth user experience, and to retain a good SEO ranking.
After the content structuring and framework, the last tasks were to implement a looping video on the home page, with which the user can interact with and play the full-length video without leaving the site. After setting this up, we also built in the capability for a live stream to be hooked into the site. The 2016 AFF was a huge success, and well-supported by the quality of the website build.
